Once again, Susan and I will be joining the fight against blood cancers by taking part in the Light The Night Walk at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto.
My personal motivations are very clear for embarking on this journey: I will be celebrating my 11th year as a cancer survivor. Unfortunately, not everyone has been as lucky. Every 25 minutes one Canadian will receive the devastating news of a blood cancer diagnoses and every 75 minutes someone will loose their battle to blood cancer.
Susan and I have been dedicating our time and efforts to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada in order to help them achieve their mission: To cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, as well as improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Thanks to the LLSC, survival rates have doubled, tripled and in some cases even quadrupled. Efforts are focused on research, patient education and support services.
Your donation helps LLSC fund research advancements in Canada that will help patients live longer, better lives. Because of donors like you, last year LLSC funded more than $3 million in blood cancer research.
This is an exciting time in Canadian blood cancer research, many treatment advancements in blood cancer are now being tested as treatment options for other forms of cancer. We have worked closely with the LLSC and have seen that they are committed to operating with transparency, accountability and integrity as good shepherds of their donor dollars. LLSC values their donors support and operating under CRA guidelines for Canadian Charities continues to improve efficiencies every year.
It is astounding to see just how many of us can say that cancer has touched our lives. No matter what our inspirations or motivations are, we can all do our part to find a cure. We aren’t all doctors or researchers, but we can all help. Those researchers need funding to find cures; those doctors need better treatment to cure patients; and thousands of patients need support.
You can help. You can donate.
